The Lancaster City Bureau of Police Honor Guard began many years ago as a special detail that occasionally assembled for parades and funerals. It became a more established unit in 2005 with permanent members.
The honor guard is used to present, post, or display the National Flag, commonwealth flag, city flag, and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial flag during parades, dedication ceremonies, department award ceremonies, memorial ceremonies, and other special events.
The unit’s highest honor is conducting funeral services for its officers and representing the Bureau at fallen police officers’ funerals throughout PA and surrounding states. This team also provides services at funerals for retired officers.
Selection for the unit is primarily based on the officers’ integrity, service, conduct, dedication, and appearance. Military experience is also preferred.
