During this season of thanks, we’d like to extend our gratitude to our dedicated officers and staff who work tirelessly to keep our community safe—your commitment and sacrifice do not go unnoticed.
In addition to this, we’d like to highlight and give a special thanks to our Police Social Workers (PSWs), Grace Mentzer and Kelly Haines, for their incredible dedication and hard work!
Five months ago, they became aware of an individual who had been sleeping on the streets, going without shelter for over 20 years. This client was only fluent in Spanish and faced significant challenges due to not having a physical copy of their ID, which hindered access to essential services. On top of everything else, this person has medical issues, making it even harder to find a shelter capable of properly caring for them.
Grace and Kelly poured their hearts and souls into ensuring this individual found a place to call home. Five long months later, they were able to officially place this person safely into a nursing home and in the hands of compassionate caregivers. Because of their endless efforts, combined with the community’s support, a resident’s life transformed from one of uncertainty into one of stability, dignity, and hope for the future.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to give thanks to our community partners Church World Services, Lancaster County Office of Aging, Union Community Care, Foodhub, Street Doctors, and community members for making this all happen!
It truly takes a village to create meaningful change, and we are deeply grateful for the support of our partners and the passion of our PSWs. Their collaboration and dedication make it possible to transform lives and build a safer, stronger Lancaster City!
