We want to remind folks to be mindful of pedestrians when riding bikes, scooters, and similar electronic transportation devices in Lancaster City. Our city ordinance states that bikes should not be ridden on any sidewalk, park, schoolyard, or public place in a way that obstructs pedestrian traffic OR poses a risk to someone’s safety.
This ordinance also prohibits riding bikes on sidewalks within the Downtown Investment District. Exceptions to this are made for the police and Downtown Investment District Authority employees on duty, for emergency and law enforcement purposes.
Remember, pedestrian safety is a collective responsibility, involving motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians themselves. When on your bike, scooter, or similar transportation device, stick to designated bike lanes or the road, if available. Let’s foster a safer community for everyone by riding responsibly! 🚲
